G. Elliott Simpson

The apparent lack of concern for reality, truth, or identity – or rather the deliberate distortion of these – gives his work an edge that can be both fascinating and unsettling.

“I’m intrigued by how people transform themselves; how others experience that transformation. And it seems to  me the change involves as much a self-deception as it does any expression of faith. People think they are  capable of all sorts of impossibilities. But there's only so much a person  can experience in the immediacy of their own body as it exists. And it seems to me that any further awareness there is to gain must  come through distortions to (and at the expense of), our regular sense of self. …To break out of my self, I must be willing to break myself.”
